And while you’ve loved reading a lot of our content, there were a few articles that landed firmly on your faves list. Here are our top 10 most viewed stories of 2018.
#10 All In: Beth Shuman of 8 Faces
Beth Shuman, founder of the incredible 8 Faces skincare brand, was the very first entrepreneur to be interviewed for our fan-fave (three of our top 10 articles are part of the series) All In column. In our interview, Beth talked about why she went full force into her business (rather than dipping in a toe as a side hustle), why staying in her lane has been a key to her success, and more.
#9 All In: Joy McCarthy of Joyous Health
Talk about a superwoman: Joy McCarthy is an entrepreneur (in addition to her main brand, she also has skincare, hair care, and tea lines), author (of two books, with another coming in 2019), business coach (the Joyous Health business program), and a mom. So yeah, it’s no surprise you guys were clamoring to read her advice on running your own business.
#8 Could CBD Be the Next Big Wellness Trend?
The answer, in short: yes. Thanks to endless media coverage and of course cannabis legalization in Canada, CBD has become the biggest thing in wellness. And with good reason: it’s been touted to do everything from helping skin ailments to relieving anxiety. In our first article on CBD, we spoke to Derek Riedle, the CEO & Publisher of cannabis lifestyle publication, Civilized, to get his expert insight on the topic.
#7 This Turmeric Spiked Latte Will Supercharge your Morning
Couldn’t get enough of this superfood in 2018? Same. And we’re pretty sure we’ll be loving this antioxidant powerhouse into 2019 and beyond, thanks in no small part to Marissa Bronfman, founder of Shot of Gold. In our first feature with Marissa, she shared her go-to recipe for a turmeric latte and told us why her company is giving back to the place that inspired her, by donating 5% of proceeds to a charity that works to educate and empower girls in India.
#6 2018 Wellness Trend: Biohacking Hits the Mainstream
We released eight wellness trends in 2018 but just one made our most-read articles list: Biohacking. Biohacking is the “incorporation of small consistent changes that change the performance of the human body or mind in measurable ways,” according to our expert Dr. Meghan Walker. In our primer, we covered some basic biohacks, a few apps to help ease you in, and how to track your progress.
#5 I Tried it: Intermittent Fasting
She’s back! This is the second time Shot of Gold’s founder, Marissa Bronfman, appears on our list. This time, she’s talking about her experience with intermittent fasting (the practice of fasting for a minimum of 16 hours per day), why it works for her, some of the major benefits, and how to try it yourself.
#4 Studio to Street: Style Tips from Toronto’s Stylish Most Fit Pros, Part 2
We love a street style tutorial and evidently you do too! Part two in our series of studio-to-street style tips from our favourite fit pros, featured Spokehaus’ Emma Brown, Barry’s Bootcamp’s Michelle Leung (pictured above), and MOVE’s Kelly Taphouse. We love how something as simple as a fierce jacket and a pair of boots can elevate a sweat sesh look to a high fashion vibe.
#3 Michelle August of SPINCO Talks Growing a Spin Empire
We’re just going to say it: Michelle August‘s entrepreneur game is serious #bossgoals. In the span of four years, the SPINCO founder has opened 10 studios, with the 11th and 12th studios coming in January 2019. She’ll be the first to give all the accolades to her team, but that doesn’t make us any less enamored with her enviable determination and of course, her beloved concept. In our interview, Michelle told us how she selects new locations, the lengthy training process for her instructors, and to what she attributes SPINCO’s continued success.
#2 Game-Changing News from the CEO of ClassPass
It’s safe to say a lot of our readers are ClassPass fans, since this news update was our second most popular story in 2018. In our interview with the company’s CEO, Fritz Lanman, we learned how the new credits-based system would allow users to book coveted spots in prime-time classes, and got some insider info on the wellness booking platform that would add experiences like massage, cryotherapy, facials, and acupuncture, to the list of bookable options.
#1 All In: Jess Robertson of Modo Yoga
What happens when a founder of one of the largest chains of yoga studios (80+ and counting) shares the secrets to her success? We listen up. On the eve of changing the company’s name (formerly Moksha Yoga) across all studios, we spoke to Jess Robertson about why running a yoga empire was an unexpected role, what she wishes more people knew about the company, why she and her co-founder still haven’t sought out investors, and her sage advice to juggling all the work that comes with running your own business. This was one of our favourite and most inspiring articles of 2018 and we’re thrilled you loved it too.
