Whether you spend all day in your of-the-moment Ultracor leggings without ever breaking a sweat, or prefer a slick pair of kicks to a sweet kitten heel, one thing is clear: athleisure as streetwear is here to stay. But how do you style a sweaty gym look for brunch or even the bar? To find out, we asked some of Toronto’s most stylish fit pros in the first installment of our new column: Studio to Street.
Caleigh Rykiss, a former TV producer, freelance writer, and digital content host, is the voice, face, and sweat behind popular body positive Instagram profile @CaleighFit. She is also the Founder and CEO of BOLO (or, BodyLove) new the boxing, fitness and social club taking Toronto by storm.
“Whenever I’m in my own gym – whether teaching or just doing work – I’m super mindful about being put together and professional while wearing athleisure,” she tells us. “After all I am the face and CEO of the brand. And wearing stretchy pants every day can be a slippery slope, fashion-wise. So whatever I wear is comfy but also finished looking.
“I come from a fashion TV background (etalk and The Social) where every day was a fashion show, so I still try to incorporate some fun fashion which is one of my passions.”
About this Look:
Although I like to play with fashion, my gym looks are often pretty muted, colour-wise, I wear a lot of black, white and grey and am BIG on matching my kicks with my ensemble. Most of all I just try to be confident in whatever I wear and rock the sh*t out of it. Confidence is the best accessory, as you know and we really emphasize that at BOLO!

“I like to feel comfortable and look good when teaching a class or doing my my own workout,” he tells us. “I believe the way you feel physically and emotionally affects your performance. This is, in part, why I’ve always been a HUGE fan of the MICHI brand.”

Hayley (@haylesbeth) is a spin instructor at SPINCO in Toronto, known for making her riders feel inspired, confident, strong, and in a better mood than when they walked through the door.
“If I can make people feel as amazing as I do after class, my mission is accomplished,” she says.
About this Look:
“In the studio when I teach, Lilybod is my favourite to teach in (helps that we carry their merchandise at the studio),” Hayley tells us. “They’re also good for heading to meet friends for brunch, and/or sometimes I will do another low intensity workout after class like Pilates or a strength training class.
“Keep on the bra, throw on a hoodie and leather jacket on top,” she explains. “Swap the leggings (only because the other ones get sweaty!) and swap spin shoes for sneakers! Also, dry shampoo is my best friend after class!”
