No matter how often you meditate or how strongly you prioritize your #selfcaresunday, the stress of the holidays can still take a serious toll. Which is why we jumped at the chance to head to the new Tribe Fitness studio for a restorative yoga class with yoga instructor Christine Noonan. We want you to be able to experience it too – Tribe Fitness has offered readers a discount on class packages with code WELLTODO. See end of article for more details!!
Tribe Fitness, which recently opened its first brick-and-mortar location, offers both spin and yoga classes. Located at Spadina and Queens Quay, the ground floor studio boasts large windows with a view of the CN Tower passing streetcars. You don’t get much more Toronto than that.
Tribe Fitness began in 2013 as a free outdoor workout series including running and yoga. Co-founders Heather and Mark Gardner wanted to give back to the community, and over time they built a strong enough following for their classes at Canoe Cove to encourage them to open a permanent location.
Offering both spin and yoga classes at the new studio provides members with the opportunity to diversify their training. Each spin bike has a computer console which allows riders to track their data using a free app. Post class, all of the data from that ride is available for riders to check their performance and set goals for the future. Knowing how hard they’re working in a class helps riders understand if they are reaching their full potential and what they need to do to make gains in their training.
Over in the yoga room, classes such as Roll Out and Yoga Flow are offered to support the members in their mental practice as well as preventing injury. We chose to attend the Restorative Flow class. The lights were turned down with the only glow coming from the street and Tribe Love neon sign.
We gathered blocks, a bolster, blankets and a tension ball and began the practice in a position that felt comfortable to us. We took a moment to note how our body felt before the practice. During our practice, we used the tension balls to gently roll our necks (think massage-worthy release) and we then moved through different heart opening positions. During some of the positions, Christine used Sage Immunity and Stress Relief oils to deepen our relaxation.
Gifting ourselves with time for self care and self love was something that we carried with us outside of the studio as well. Although it’s challenging to breathe and be still, it counter balances how we spend our days: rushing and moving fast. The 8pm class left us feeling realized, calm and ready for a restful sleep. How perfect would it be to end every day this way?
Tribe is also offering readers a chance to get 15% off their single, 5-, 10-, and 20-class packages with code WELLTODO! Classes can be purchased here.
