For the last nearly two years, Well TO Do has been fiercely devoted to covering everything about the fitness and wellness scene in Toronto, from studio openings, to events, to product launches, to advice from our panel of experts. From our website, to our newsletter, to our social media presence, we’ve been hard at work to make sure you’re the first to know the latest news in our beloved industry.
And while you’ve loved reading a lot of our content, there were a few articles that landed firmly on your faves list. Here are our top 5 most viewed stories of 2017.
#5: Jackie Saleh – A Look Behind the Boxing Gloves
We caught up with social worker turned boxing instructor extraordinaire Jackie Saleh (catch her at Stockyards and Equinox Bay Street) to find out why she loves stepping into the ring and what’s on tap for her next.
#4: Introducing Toronto’s The Quiet Company
The practices of meditation and mindfulness are ancient but their place among our city’s favorite wellness practices is something new. But we’re not just meditating at home anymore: thanks to standout companies like The Quiet Company, we’re gathering in stores, pop-up spaces, co-working venues, and studios to get our zen on in a group setting.
#3: Way of Will – Local, Natural Products for Active Lifestyles
We were instantly obsessed with Way of Will and their line of locally-made natural skincare products for those of us leading active lifestyles. We couldn’t get enough of their clothing refresh spray, olfactic inhaler, and foot/shoe deodorant, among others. And based on this story’s popularity, you were just as excited as we were!
#2: Genuine Health – Behind the Scenes with Stewart Brown
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (and we don’t mean the crystal kind), you’ve no doubt heard the buzz about Genuine Health, the beloved supplement company. From their constant presence on our Instagram feeds to spotting them at events and in every health food store and fast-casual restaurant, the brand has become a Toronto mainstay.
The buzzed-about launch of their Gut Superfoods powder and probiotics this year caused a near frenzy among the wellness in-crowd, and we expect to see a major expansion into the rest of the community this year. We caught up with their founder in our number two story of the year…
#1: Indoor Group Rowing Comes to Toronto with SCULLHOUSE
Drumroll please… announcing our top story of 2017: the opening of SCULLHOUSE!
With so many boutique studios opening in Toronto, it’s hard to launch something unique and exciting enough to make us unclip from the spin bike or divert from our downward dog, but this newcomer did just that. Launched by Kristin Jeffery, a rower who once represented Canada at the World Rowing Championship (Credibility? Check.), SCULLHOUSE became our city’s first dedicated group rowing studio this year.
With classes that combine heart-pumping rowing intervals and bodyweight strength moves, SCULLHOUSE managed to launch a workout totally unique to our city without being gimmicky. And you seemed pretty stoked about it too: your interest helped this article and interview with the studio’s founder skyrocket to the top of our most-read list this year!
Thank you so much to our readers for all the love this year! We can’t wait to bring you even more wellness, fitness, and nutrition news in the new year!
