Well TO Do: Please introduce Pop Physique to the Well TO Do readers.
Pop Physique: Pop Physique, the iconic barre workout and lifestyle brand born in Los Angeles, offers at its core a specialized class designed to sculpt and tone the entire body in just one hour. Driven by thoughtfully curated and innovative playlists in an artistic setting, Pop is much more than just a workout; it is a transformative mind and body experience.
WTD: Tell us about Pop Physique – how, where and why was it started?
PP: Pop founder, Jennifer Williams, danced ballet all her life. When she left it professionally, she got her Pilates certification and began teaching. She decided it was the right time to create Pop because she could not find a workout that she liked that gave the results she knew were possible. So Jennifer started Pop and it has evolved from there!
WTD: Barre has become such a huge phenomenon in the wellness space. What makes Pop Physique unique?
PP: Our studio spaces feature hardwood floors like a dance studio and modern warm, flattering lighting. It truly is an artistic approach to exercise. So the music we play and how we play it creates the experience that motivates and plays into the emotional aspect of it. The teachers are rigorously trained and typically come from a dance or movement background.
WTD: The workout has definite dance and pilates influences. What do those elements contribute to the effectiveness of the workout?
PP: Pop founder, Jennifer Williams, is Pilates certified, so there absolutely are Pilates elements in class. Pop is an isometric workout — meaning, we use precise and repetitious movements to target all the major muscle groups in your body. It’s incredibly safe, as you only use very light hand weights and your own body weight for resistance, yet super efficient and effective.
WTD: We LOVE the Pop Physique branding. Why is the branding so important to your studio?
PP: Our branding and marketing is is very modern and fresh. Our clients want to say that they do Pop Physique by wearing the logo or taking selfies in our selfie rooms. We love providing a full lifestyle experience for our clients, so, we make sure the branding matches that.
WTD: What was it about Toronto that made it a choice market for Pop Physique to expand into?
PP: As another major metropolitan international city, we felt that Toronto would be a great location to place a number of locations. The people of Toronto seem to appreciate style and design as well as love to exercise!
WTD: What do Pop Physique clients take away from class? How does a Pop Physique regime impact their lives?
PP: Pop Physique will give you the best version of your body. It will tone and accentuate the areas that you want to target (like the waist, thighs and butt) without adding bulk. And the results go beyond aesthetics; you’ll have better posture, balance, less back pain, and confidence as a result of our workout.
WTD: If you could give the WTD readers one piece of advice on achieving greater personal wellness, what would it be?
PP: We like to say, we do Pop for our sanity, not our vanity. So approach working out as something you prioritize in your life. Find ways to fit working out into your day that you know are realistic and you’ll be able to make it a habit for life.
WTD: What’s next for Pop Physique Toronto?
PP: We are excited to be adding more classes to our schedule and creating fun life-style events over the next year. Longer term, we look forward to adding more locations in and around the GTA, we want Pop Physique to be accessible for everyone in all the different areas of the city
WTD: What’s exciting you most right now about the Toronto wellness scene?
PP: The Toronto wellness scene is growing and expanding! More and more people are eating well, taking care of themselves both physically and mentally, and really looking for a match for their fitness needs. People in Toronto want to feel great and enjoy life!
